The first of 2017’s Safety Day/Mock Line Strike/PipelineResponse events drew big coverage in Amarillo.
Presented in conjunction with the Damage Prevention Councils of Texas High Plains Council, Enertech and Texas811, the event included both classroom instruction by Texas A&M Engineering Extension service and a live mock pipeline strike.  Here’s how Amarillo network affiliates covered this story.








The Texas Firefighter is the fall publication of the State Firefighters’/Fire Marshals’ Association.  Features usually include yearly committee appointments, conference highlights and articles.  Texas811’s second article in this publication focused on a tragic piece of history in East Texas that led directly to some of our natural gas safeguards today.  Page 20 in the on-line viewer: “Don’t Let History Repeat Itself”

As part of the last Eagle Ford Safety & Equipment Rodeo Roundup in Pearsall, Texas, the Border Damage Prevention Council of Texas, Williams and Texas811 presented a fitness firefighter challenge.  In full bunker gear, in the South Texas heat, these teams competed for fitness and top honors. Passport to Texas

Passport to Texas is a syndicated radio feature carried on nearly 100 stations in Texas and Oklahoma.   Billed as a “radio guide to the Texas outdoors by Texas Parks and Wildlife” each program offers insights and tips on life outdoors in Texas.

Homeowner’s Consult is a free online resource for current and future homeowners.  Their goal is to help find the best qualified real estate professionals to meet specific real estate needs, as well as offer real estate tips and blogs for both homeowner and real estate professional alike.  Texas811 provided a blog entry on how new homeowners can avoid digging up unnecessary trouble.

The official publication of the Greater Houston Builder’s Association, Houston Builder represents all aspects of the residential building industry in the Greater Houston area. Its purpose is to provide up-to-date information on industry trends, products and news.  This influential publication covers association-related educational opportunities, special events and meetings as well as political updates in relation to the building industry.   We are very proud to have an article aimed at Houston builders, contractors and excavators on the need to use 811 before making the dirt fly!

Tyler’s oldest and only city magazine, Tyler Today was founded in 1989 to provide true magazine journalism. With a distribution of 12,000+ magazines entirely in Smith County, Texas, Tyler Today ranks among the finest small region city magazines in the country.    Tyler is also home to a giant rose industry, and hosts azalea trails on its brick streets every spring.   Texas811’s article is aimed at these prolific gardeners, and why it’s important that 811 be called before putting in new beds.

Southwest Farm Press, January 2015 

Southwest Farm Press offers in-depth coverage of the varied, highly productive agriculture of the southwestern states. Editorial encompasses production, management, research and legislative/regulatory issues affecting growers of key cotton, wheat, grain sorghum, rice, peanuts, pecans, soybeans, corn and vegetable/citrus crops and includes features on the region's producers and agribusiness news.   Texas811 contributed an article keyed to water conservation for farmers and ranchers by using 811.

FenceWeek, November 2014 

The FenceWeek/FenceBids website is designed to be the on-line information portal for the fencing and access control industry. The free, weekly newsletters are widely admired but "information" is often more than just news and jobs, and the website offers much more.  In this instance, it offered a Texas811 article keyed to a national fencing audience on why it’s important to use 811 before putting in a fence.

Garden Railways, October 2015

Since 1984, Garden Railways has been the number-one national magazine about the hobby of garden railroading. Each issue features hobby news, product reviews, how-to articles, featured railroads, and much more.  Garden and backyard railroading means digging into the ground, and Texas811 contributed a railway themed article for these hobby enthusiasts.   The article was mentioned favorably in a follow up letter to the editor in the subsequent issue.

Texas Firefighter, October 2015

The Texas Firefighter is the fall publication of the State Firefighters’ & Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas. Features usually include the yearly committee appointments, conference highlights and articles.
This edition featured an article aimed at first responders on dealing with gas leaks or breaks.  Texas811 members Atmos Energy, CoServ and Texas Gas Service also contributed their expertise to the article, as did the Railroad Commission of Texas and retired Fire Chief Geo. Randy Corbin.

Hints from Heloise, November 2015 

For more than five decades, Heloise's household hints column has been helping readers clean up life's spills, stains and stinks.  Eloise Bowles Cruse started the column, which was taken over by her daughter, San Antonio's Heloise — whose full name is Poncé Kiah Marchelle Heloise Cruse Evans.   She headlined Texas811 and the 811 system in this column, which appeared in over 500 newspapers.

Hill Country Sun, March 2015  page 7

The Hill Country Sunhas a monthly circulation of 24,000. It is distributed monthly to more than 450 popular Hill Country locations, plus home delivered to all 5,181 Wimberley homes and 8,240 Dripping Springs homes by the US Postal Service. An additional 11,000+ copies are delivered to 400+ high volume tourist/visitor locations across the Hill Country.   This newspaper carried the following article on the need for 811 in the Hill Country of Texas.

Palestine Herald-Press

The Palestine Herald-Press is published in Palestine, Texas, and distributed Tuesday through Friday mornings and again on Sunday morning. Its parent newspaper was founded in 1849 as the Palestine Advocate. Texas811 got a mention in a column by writer Horace McQueen on the need to call before you dig.

TEXAS811 IN THE NEWS (video)


KYTX is the CBS network affiliate for Tyler/Longview in Texas.    The station signed on air in 1991 and became a CBS affiliate in 2004.  Texas811 has been featured in a story that ran across several newscasts.


KTVT is the CBS network affiliate for Dallas/Fort Worth.    The station signed on air in 1955 as the first independent station in Texas.  It became a CBS affiliate in 1995.  Texas811 has been featured twice.  First in a public affairs program about the N11 numbering system, and second in a story relating the need to call 811 before digging to prevent underground damage.


KAMU is both a TV station and FM radio station, in one. KAMU functions within the "Educational Broadcast Services" department of Texas A&M University in College Station and, while it exists primarily to provide PBS network programming to the Brazos Valley area, it is also involved in the academic mission of Texas A&M, from formal instruction in the broadcast arts to on-the-job training for student announcers, operators, and production assistants at the stations.
In cooperation with KAMU and PBS, Texas811 produced a 30 minute program entitled “Guarding Unseen Texas – The 811 System” which aired on Texas PBS affiliates.

Scarborough Faire


Scarborough Faire is located in Waxahachie, Texas and is the second largest renaissance festival in Texas with annual attendance of approximately 200,000 and average per-weekend attendance is 25,000.      
The Faire runs for 8 weekends, from the first of April through Memorial Day weekend.  Texas811 produced a specialty bumper sticker as well as a program ad, and hangs a banner outside of the Faire Gates.

The North Texas Irish Festival


The North Texas Irish Festival runs for three consecutive days at the beginning of March in Dallas’ Fair Park.  It’s the largest cultural festival in the DFW area, and has been in existence since 1983, featuring top Irish musicians and dancers from around the world and a number of cultural presentations on 14 stages at Fair Park.   Texas811 is happy to take an Irish view on safe digging in their souvenir program!

The Trains at NorthPark


The Trains at NorthPark has been delighting children and adults since 1987, with all proceeds going toward the Ronald McDonald House charities.  Set in over 4,000 square feet of space, the toy trains are visited by over 60,000 people each holiday season at its home in Dallas’ NorthPark Mall.   Texas811 currently runs three rail cars during the season to help benefit the Ronald McDonald House charities.  Here’s Texas811 president Mike Losawyer with one of the Texas811 themed cabooses.

The Turning Point

The Turning Point is a non-profit sexual violence crisis center in Plano, Texas.   Texas811 has been raising funds for this center for several years, by helping to host Casino Night parties and the popular Texas811 charity golf tournament.


Texas811 and DECA

Texas811 has partnered with the Garland Independent School District’s DECA Chapter to provide scholarship and employment opportunities, career preparation training, and provides several volunteers for judging events. Additionally, Texas811 volunteer judges also serve for the state and national competitions as well. A few of our current employees are former DECA students too!
